GCSE maths and English & Functional Skills
We can offer GCSE maths and English as well as Functional Skills for those who don’t have the appropriate qualifications. You will be assessed prior to starting the course and you will be put into a class based on your ability. Intensive courses are available, as well as budgeting courses and pre-employment courses.
Our maths and English qualifications are taught for three hours a week or classroom learning. The qualifications are assessed through three exams at the end of the academic year, or when resit exams are available.
Our Functional Skills qualifications are intended for anyone wishing to develop their maths and English. These qualifications focus on both the underpinning skills as well as the ability to apply maths and English to different contexts. Functional Skills qualifications are used to support learners’ progress towards GCSE.
Our Functional Skills qualifications are available across various levels.

“I hated maths when I first started Springboard but I have made great progress and now have 2 maths qualifications! Springboard has helped me build confidence in myself and my maths skills. I love my maths lessons now.”
“I have enjoyed my time doing maths at Springboard. I have learnt new things and now I can do more than I used too. Marion is a good teacher and explains things I don’t understand.”
“GCSE English has taught me a lot. From going in and not knowing metaphors, and many other language techniques to knowing how to use my imagination to express (myself). Not only do you learn new things but you make new friends and (have) a positive relationship with your mentor (tutor).”
“I’d definitely recommend Springboard because it gives you the chance to gain qualifications and learn new things. There’s forklift training and many other things that might suit you. For maths and English, I wasn’t too good to start off with but once I got comfortable with what I was doing I enjoyed learning and was really focused on my work which led me to passing my English. Overall Springboard is a fantastic place to learn new skills!”
