Springboard Futures provides high quality further education and supported training to those in Sunderland who have a recognised autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), learning difficulties and disabilities (LLDD).
Our provision of specialist staff, resources and equipment will enable students with learning difficulties and disabilities to make the transition to adulthood.

Further Education Pathways:
Springboard Futures offer a range of pathways to suit individual needs. Bespoke packages are made to meet the individual needs of each student. Students may follow just one pathway or elements from each.
Common to all our pathways is the inclusion of:
- Personal and Social Development
- Self-regulation and Management
- LIteracy, Numeracy and ICT
- Employment sessions
- Pastoral sessions
Pathway 1: Independence – Life & Living Skills
This programme is aimed at young people with severe learning difficulties and those with complex autism who are over 19 years of age. This programme will take young people from their current levels of independence and build on this through developing a range of skills which will assist them in managing their lives as independently as possible.
Pathway 2: Vocational
This pathway offers a variety of vocational educational courses at a range of different levels depending upon the individual needs of the young person. Each young person will be initially assessed on their entry to establish which course would be most suitable. Courses range from Entry 1 – Level 2, and are accredited by a range of awarding bodies such as AQA, NOCN and City and Guilds. Students can experience the following vocational areas: Land Based Studies and Horticulture, Hospitality and Catering, Sport, Business Administration, Retail, Painting and Decorating and Car Valeting.
Pathway 3: Employability
This programme will work with young people to provide a route into employment, which may be supported by employment placements and work experience. Young people will access a range of work based learning opportunities across the city to develop skills required. We currently provide placements in the following areas: Hospitality and Catering, Land Based Studies and Horticulture, Sports and Leisure, Business Administration, ICT, Retail, Customer Service and Warehousing. Other placements may also be available in specific vocational areas.
The variation of NOCN qualifications we deliver in Independent Living have been designed to address the needs of learners working at Entry Level and in particular those with learning difficulties and disabilities. These qualifications ensure that all learners are given the same opportunities to access appropriate and relevant education and improve their life chances. These qualifications are designed to meet the requirements of the Foundation Learning independent living strand by providing a foundation for lifelong learning, focusing on transferable social and life skills which are essential for living and working in the community.
This part of the qualification is designed to provide an introduction to working in various employment sectors. This particular qualification also contains units to address learners’ needs in Literacy and Numeracy as well as Personal Development areas such as Emotional Intelligence, Road Safety Awareness or Computer Basics.
Our Functional Skills qualifications are intended for anyone wishing to develop their maths and English. These qualifications focus on both the underpinning skills as well as the ability to apply maths and English to different contexts. Functional Skills qualifications are used to support learners’ progress towards GCSE.
